Cold brew amaretto cocktail

We need to talk about cocktails. More specifically this cold brew amaretto cocktail.

Cocktails are delicious, right? They’re a great way of mixing flavours and making drinks really interesting. There’s always time for good beers, wines and (of course) gin, but sometimes you just need a cocktail. And once you’ve come on this little adventure with me, you’ll want one of these.

My normal go-to on the cocktail front is a Negroni or a martini, but I couldn’t resist playing about with cold brew coffee in a cocktail. If you scour the internet you’ll find lots of cold brew bourbon cocktails, but bourbon and I are far from friends, so my mind went to amaretto. Oh boy was that a good idea.

This works on so many levels, but particularly because the flavours complement one another so well. Even people who aren’t big coffee drinkers will find this delicious.

Cold brew coffee is not nearly so harsh or as bitter as normal black coffee is. The longer brewing process makes it sweeter and gives it less harsh flavours. Mixing that with some cream and the sweet, nuttiness of the amaretto means that there’s very little jarring in the glass.

Most of us would probably think first of an espresso martini if we’re talking about coffee cocktails, but whilst these are delicious it seemed too obvious (and I didn’t have any Kahlua either), so amaretto was a great next shout.

So if you are in the market for a cocktail that’s like sipping your favourite dessert, then this is what you need in your life. It’s a little sweet, but not sickly so, full of flavour and something you can relax into drinking.
