It’s the start of another month which means it’s time for one thing: Instagrammers Anonymous! Yes, after a break in September (did I mention I was on holiday?) my monthly review through my slight obsession with Instagram is back!
We’re also going to have to do a speedy update, as life is a little hectic right now - holidays, work, travelling for work, dealing with the start of winter and using any spare time to play GTA V (we bought a copy for our flat, productivity has since reduced considerably - well, when we’re actually at home, which seems to be quiet rare). OK, so ploughing ahead:
I’m not going to do my recipe of the month this time, as the one I’ve enjoyed the most was a rosemary focaccia. Since I haven’t got around to posting the recipe yet I can’t really highlight it, so instead here’s a picture of my homemade pesto from last week - I made it to the same recipe as the one I made a couple of months back, which can be found here.
I mentioned in the intro that I’ve been quite the jet-setter in the last couple of months (by the end of next weekend I’ll have been in six different airports a combined total of 15 times - the odd one being Philadelphia to drop off a hire car). To be perfectly honest, I’m getting a bit bored of departure lounges and feel I should probably be spending my weekends planting trees or something, to offset my ridiculously un-environmentally friendly life. I digress. Whilst wandering around Gatwick’s North Terminal - waiting for my much-delayed Sleazyjet flight a couple of weeks ago - I came across this wall. I’m not saying that it was worth the delay, but it made me smile and also think of this photo of a T-rex trying to make a bed…
Stupid here also agreed to run in the Survival of the Fittest 10km obstacle course with a group from work. I forgot about it whilst on holiday and it was a bit of a shock to come back to an email saying ’12 days to go!’ There were a few aches and pains, a bit of water, lots of hills and a fair bit of mud (and a none too flattering photo in the Edinburgh Evening News - tragically not available online) but we did it in 1 hour 18 minutes and raised over £500 for Cancer Research UK. Alls well that ends well, right?
Finally it was Halloween yesterday, so I decided to make some biscuits to take into the office for our 90s themed day. All I can say is move over Starbucks, there’s a new king for the ‘pumpkin spiced’ crown! OK, they weren’t exactly perfect, and I don’t exactly deserve a crown, but they tasted damn good (even if I say so myself). We also did a 90s quiz including a round of ‘name the famous person'; our resident creative genius managed to photoshop our faces in to make it a little more entertaining as well. All I can say is that I fit terrifyingly well in to both Dawson (of Dawson’s Creek fame) and Kelly Rowland (circa 90s Destiny’s Child). Again, tragically neither of these photos are in the public domain, but if they do become public I’ll share them. Truly the stuff of nightmares.
That’s about it for October. November is already shaping up to be a busy month with a trip to London next week and the rugby at Murrayfield a couple of weeks later, but rest assured there will be some food (I hope) on the cards/table. November will also see The Usual Saucepans’ first birthday! It’s come around terrifyingly quickly, but the 25th is the date to keep in your diary!
