As those who follow me on Twitter might well know October has been a somewhat chaotic month, but its recurring motif was boxes. Packing boxes, moving boxes, unpacking boxes. Doing it all over again. I moved house twice (with a few weeks of temporary accommodation whilst I waited for my new place to be ready) and my work moved offices. All in all it’s not left much time or desire to be in the kitchen.
Now the moving is all over though and it’s time to start it all up again, in the mean time though it’s well passed time we reviewed October through the tinted filters of Instagram.
There aren’t many recipes on the blog this month, but what there is was pretty delicious. My Peanut Butter Fudge almost became my Recipe of the Month but was beaten there at the last mouthful by my new autumnal favourite - a Pumpkin Spiced Traycake (which actually has as little to do with pumpkins as the Easter Bunny).
One of the delights of being a food blogger is that I occasionally get invited to exciting events, and this month I had the pleasure of going to the Edinburgh launch of Rock Rose Gin. Not only is this gin utterly delicious, smooth and incredibly more-ish, but I also got to meet the wonderful husband and wife team, Martin and Claire Murray, behind this exciting new gin. If you spot its distinctive bottle behind a bar, grab yourself a glass and you’ll find out what I mean - I’m looking forward to getting my hands on a bottle soon.
Finally the latest gin creation spend most of October marinating itself in preparation for my visit to go see friends up in Dornoch (it’s about an hour’s drive north of Inverness and absolutely stunning). The recipe will be up soon, but for now here’s my Apple, Bramble and Cinnamon gin - and a little view of our Sunday morning stroll.
And that is just about it. November promises to be a lot more exciting in the kitchen, and if you can’t quite wait another 7 and a bit weeks, here’s all TUS’s Christmas recipes - many more to be added shortly!
