Be it due to horse meat, economics, environmental concerns or just the desire for better food, there is a growing trend in the UK for going back to food that we can trace back to its roots. In short: we want local food.
We’re learning to love local food again; from sourcing local produce to making much better use of farmers markets or going to our independent retailers - and I think this can only be a good thing. If we opt for locally sourced food we can trace its origins, stop sourcing ingredients from around the world and hopefully reduce our dinner’s carbon footprint at the same time.
But more importantly, taking advantage of fresh, local, seasonal produce will just give us better tasting food! And who isn’t down for that?
Our Man in Edinburgh (i.e. me) is a selection of what’s good in Edinburgh. It will be an ever-expanding list of the best that Edinburgh has to offer in food and drink. This will include (but isn’t limited to) suppliers, markets, bars, cafés and retailers. I also want it to be a great list, so if your favourite is missing get in touch! Tweet me, email me, or just leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to try it out.
